The Federation of Swiss Psychologists (FSP), the European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations (EFPA), and the American Psychological Association (APA) are pleased to announce the collaborative development of a presence for the science and profession of Psychology at the United Nations (UN) in Geneva.
The Federation of Swiss Psychologists (FSP), the European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations (EFPA), and the American Psychological Association (APA) are pleased to announce the collaborative development of a presence for the science and profession of Psychology at the United Nations (UN) in Geneva. This is to complement the longstanding work of the APA at the UN in New York, and aims to broaden the reach of European Psychology into international organisations that exist to find solutions to the problems of society.
EFPA and APA are accredited nongovernmental organizations at the UN, where they hold special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). APA is also affiliated with the Department of Global Communications (DGC). APA has been active at the UN in New York since 1999.
The collaborating organisations will be bringing together a new team in Geneva that seeks to bring psychological science and practice to bear on the work of the UN. This will be through fostering dialogue and information exchange among psychologists, UN staff, member state representatives, and NGOs to encourage the development of psychologically-informed policies and programs to help achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The topics of focus will be based on the shared advocacy goals of the collaborating partners and UN initiatives.
UN-Geneva representative volunteers will shortly be brought on board through an open call. These representatives will be based in the Geneva area. They will utilize their own expertise and serve as a conduit to FSP, EFPA, and APA and in turn to those organisations’ members, seeking opportunities to develop substantive input to the UN.
This initiative will be governed by a steering group working to agreed terms of reference with equal participation from the collaborating organisations. The call for volunteer representatives will follow.
