This report provides an overview of how psychotherapy is regulated and practiced across Europe, based on an EFPA survey of Member Associations. It explores the relationship between psychologists and psychotherapists, national differences in legal and voluntary regulation, and the presence of professional associations. The document highlights concerns about the impact of psychotherapy’s status on psychological practice, summarizes advocacy efforts, and offers recommendations for strengthening psychology’s role in psychotherapy, such as promoting EuroPsy specialist certification and fostering collaboration among national associations.
