EFPA’s Commitment to Gender Equality

EFPA’s Commitment to Gender Equality

The European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations AISBL (EFPA) affirms its commitment to gender equality as a core value that reflects what we stand for as a federation of psychologists’ associations across Europe.
Gender equality is a fundamental value of the European Union and one of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. EFPA endorses this commitment and recognises that advancing gender equality is inseparable from our Purpose: to develop psychology, contribute to society, and serve psychologists.

1. Our understanding of gender equality

EFPA understands gender equality as encompassing respect for the full diversity of gender identities and expressions, and to addressing the ways in which gender intersects with other dimensions of diversity — including ethnicity, disability, age, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic background — in shaping people’s experiences and opportunities.

2. Our commitments

EFPA commits to:
2.1  Actively monitoring and promoting gender-equitable representation in its governance structures, working groups, committees, and events such as the European Congress of Psychology
2.2 Integrating gender diversity as a cross-cutting consideration within the work EFPA undertakes to fulfil its Purpose, including its scientific, educational, and advocacy activities
2.3 Fostering inclusive and respectful working conditions at its Head Office and across its voluntary structures
2.4 Providing guidance and support to member associations seeking to advance gender equality within their own contexts

3. Accountability

EFPA will monitor gender representation across its structures on a regular basis and will include relevant findings in its reporting to member associations. Where gaps or barriers are identified, EFPA commits to taking meaningful steps to address them
