Project 10 - Educational Psychology: Proposal for a Specialist Standard and Certificate in Educational Psychology

Intended Goal

Contribute to the development of a common identity of Educational Psychologists and further develop the profession of Educational Psychology and the distinct knowledge, skills and functional competences beyond independent practice in educational settings

Specific Objectives

Part 1: The proposal for a Specialist Standard and Certificate in Educational Psychology will be progressed in accordance with the revised (streamlined) Guidelines ‘EuroPsy: Preparing a Proposal for a EuroPsy Specialist Standard and Certificate: Guidance Document’.

Part 2: If supported following consultation with Full Members and after discussion in the Council, and the approval of the BoD, the Specific Minimum Education and Training Requirements, and Competences to be demonstrated for the Specialist Standard and Certificate in Educational Psychology will be developed, to be approved for addition to the Regulations by the 2027 General Assembly.

The work to prepare Appendix II.6 for Educational Psychology in a form consistent with the existing EuroPsy Specialist Standards and Certificates (e.g., Psychotherapy, Work & Organisational Psychology, Clinical Neuropsychology), ensuring alignment with the established EuroPsy structure and terminology will include:
- Defining the Specialist Field of Practice in Educational Psychology, building on the existing Definition of the Field of Practice already set out in EuroPsy I.3. Fields of Practice and Competence Profiling.
- Identifying the Specific Minimum Education and Training Requirements for the EuroPsy Specialist Standard and Certificate in Educational Psychology, where there are to be any requirements that are in addition to the general minimum requirements specified in Appendix II.1.
- Specifying the Competences to be demonstrated. EuroPsy Specialist Standards build on and require the fulfilment of EuroPsy functional and foundational competences. The EuroPsy Specialist Standard in Educational Psychology should specify the additional functional competences, which are required to achieve readiness for specialist or advanced practice in Educational Psychology as a third stage of professional competence development. This should follow the model used in other specialist appendices.
- Producing a draft for approval as an addition to the EuroPsy Regulations, to be presented for adoption by the EFPA General Assembly in September 2027.

Expected Results

Part 1: Proposal document for a Specialist Standard and Certificate in Educational Psychology for consultation with the Full Members and as the basis for making a decision on whether to proceed to Part 2.

Part 2: (consequent on approval to proceed after Part 1): EuroPsy Regulations Appendix II.6 updated to include Specific Minimum Requirements for the EuroPsy Specialist Standard and Certificate in Educational Psychology,

* FM (or other external source(s) agreed by EFPA as appropriate) will be expected to cover any cost of travelling, accommodation and subsistence in the event of face-to-face meetings. All meetings that are held in person, however, should also be hybrid to allow attendance by project team members for whom in person attendance is not an option.

Meeting rooms, refreshments/ lunch and hybrid meeting technology are provided by EFPA Head Office for in-person meetings in Brussels. Overall costs for the face-to-face meeting are thereby reduced by using EFPA’s Head Office facility in Brussels and in the absence of good reason to the contrary this should be the preferred venue. Meeting in Brussels also facilitates project management and support by the Head Office.
