EuroPsy in Bulgaria: Establishing a Common European Professional Framework

On 24 April 2026, the Faculty of Philosophy at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” hosted a seminar entitled “EuroPsy – Building a Common European Psychology: European Certificates and Supervision.” The event was jointly organised by the Department of Psychology of the Faculty of Philosophy at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and the Society of Psychologists in the Republic of Bulgaria.

The seminar brought together psychologists, researchers, academics and students to discuss the EuroPsy certificates framework and its role in promoting common professional standards across Europe. The main speaker was Per Strumsheim, Chair of the Norwegian National EuroPsy Committee,  who presented the principles and requirements underpinning the EuroPsy standard.

The programme focused on European certificates and their foundation in the integration of academic knowledge and professional practice. Particular attention was given to the importance of practical training in psychology and to the essential role of supervision in the development of professional competencies.

The seminar featured contributions from several distinguished representatives of the Bulgarian psychological community, including Snezhana Ilieva, Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”; Professor Sonya Karabelova; and Stoyu Nedin, Chair of the Board of the Society of Psychologists in the Republic of Bulgaria.

The event provided an important platform for exchanging knowledge and experience on the implementation of the EuroPsy framework and its contribution to strengthening professional standard and quality assurance in psychological practice across Europe.
