The European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations AISBL (EFPA) is the umbrella organisation in Europe for national psychologists’ associations, with thirty-seven European countries represented including all EU nations and a network of some 400,000 psychologists.
EFPA has a long tradition of developing psychology (by enhancing scientific and professional standards), contributing to society (by using psychological knowledge and competences in support in particular of the UN sustainable development goals) and serving psychologists (by advancing, promoting and protecting the profession of psychologists at the national and European levels).
In the context of the COMMISSION STAFF WORKING DOCUMENT- Serbia 2025 Report, Accompanying the document COMMUNICATION FROM THE COMMISSION TO THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT, THE COUNCIL, THE EUROPEAN ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COMMITTEE AND THE COMMITTEE OF THE REGIONS 2025 Communication on EU enlargement policy (42333/EU XXVIII.GP), EFPA wishes to express its support for the recommendations that Serbia ensures the autonomy of research institutes and universities, and respects academic freedom and freedom of scientific research.
We recognise that these conditions are fundamental for higher education institutions to carry out their essential functions, including fostering critical thinking, research, and evidence-based contributions to society.
EFPA encourages the continued implementation of these recommendations to safeguard the quality, independence, and integrity of higher education.
