EFPA participates in European Brain Council event on the future of brain health and care

26 October 2026, Kildare, Ireland — The European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations (EFPA) participated in the European Brain Council’s policy event on “Breaking Down Silos: A Value-Driven Future for Brain Health & Care”, an associated event of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026.

The event brought together policymakers, researchers, healthcare professionals, patient organisations and people with lived experience to explore how more integrated, people-centred approaches can improve brain health outcomes across Europe. Discussions focused on prevention and early intervention, unmet needs, translating research into practice, and redefining value in brain healthcare.

EFPA’s contribution emphasised the importance of a biopsychosocial approach to brain health, recognising that effective prevention, care and support must go beyond biological and medical perspectives to address psychological, social and developmental factors.

EFPA also highlighted the role of digital determinants of wellbeing, and the need to involve communities in shaping research and services, and to consider the wider policy, cultural and systemic factors influencing health outcomes.

The discussions reinforced the importance of moving beyond disciplinary and institutional divisions towards coordinated, evidence-informed approaches that place people’s needs and lived experiences at the centre.

EFPA’s participation reflects its commitment to ensuring that psychological science and expertise contribute to European brain health policy, supporting more inclusive, sustainable and effective approaches to prevention and care.
