The European Commission’s panel on child safety online has issued recommendations for a more coordinated European approach to creating safer digital environments for children. Drawing on discussions with young people, families and experts held between March and June, the report outlines key challenges and practical ways to better protect and empower children online.
Among its recommendations, the Panel highlights the need for greater responsibility from online platforms, including stronger safety-by-design approaches and effective age assurance. It also calls for greater investment in digital and media literacy and better support for parents and educators, while emphasising that children and young people should have a meaningful role in shaping the digital environments they use.
The European Commission is expected to assess the recommendations and present potential proposals after the summer.
