EFPA Standing Committee on Geropsychology meeting in Brussels

A hybrid meeting was hosted, enabling the majority of SC delegates to participate in a significant portion of the event. This resulted in a record attendance of 16 people, including the EFPSA representative, the liaison of the SC with the Board of Directors and the Executive Director of EFPA.

To this date, 15 countries are being represented in the SC (Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Norway) and the SC is open to welcoming more members within the committee from all over Europe.

Representatives from each country are psychologists working in the domain of ageing. The members of the committee are either practitioners (clinical psychologists, neuropsychologists) or academics working in the field of ageing covering various themes (e.g. cognition, healthy ageing, social prejudice, well-being, intergenerational and intercultural relations).

Currently the committee is actively working on the following tasks which were discussed during the meeting:

  • Preparing a special journal edition on ageing, based on themes of interest of the members of the committee combining theory/research and practice.
  • Preparing a survey on the training and education of psychologists on geropsychology across Europe to provide an understanding of the status of the training and education of psychologists in the ageing domain.
