EFPA Standing Committee on Geropsychology at the ICP2024 in Prague

Professor Frieder Lang (Germany) moderated a panel discussion titled “Aging Well?”. Discussion with prominent researchers in the field showed that aging is a truly cross-cutting issue and addressed pressing topics including the evolution and development of various aging-related concepts in the scientific discourse as well as clearing up widespread misconceptions. Furthermore, a thorough examination of most relevant factors contributing to more or less favorable outcomes provided valuable insights into possible future developments in the psychology of ageing.

Hana Georgi (Czech Republic), Camille Defreyne (Belgium), Olga Zamalijeva (Lithuania), Isabelle Albert (Luxembourg) and others organised a symposium titled “Geropsychology in action: advocacy of health and well-being in aging societies”. This lively symposium encompassed a wide range of topics, including innovative fall prediction methods, the impact of physical activity on cognitive aging, grief interventions in primary care, predictors of subjective well-being in Parkinson's patients, and the role of multimorbidity in well-being and social participation. Presenters not only shared their research results, but also discussed possibilities for practical implications and policy recommendations.
