The event, titled "Youth Initiatives Driving Psychological Solutions for Sustainable Development Goals by 2030," focused on showcasing the impactful role of youth-led initiatives in addressing global challenges outlined in Agenda 2030. Organised collaboratively by the European Federation of Psychology Students’ Associations (EFPSA), the European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations (EFPA), the American Psychological Association Graduate Students (APAGS), and the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP), the event took place on the 16th of April at 19:00 CEST, attracting a diverse audience from around the world.

EFPA contributed to the event through its representation and active involvement in panel discussions by the student representatives from two working groups: R. Malwine Deckert - EFPSA Representative in the Working Group on Climate Change, as well as Candela Carrera - EFPSA Representative in the EFPA Standing Committee on Crisis, Disaster and Trauma Psychology. With its extensive network and expertise in psychology, EFPA played a vital role in highlighting the significance of psychological perspectives and interventions in addressing sustainable development goals.

The three main takeaways from the event include:

  1. Recognition of the crucial role of youth-led initiatives in driving positive change and addressing global challenges.
  2. Emphasis on the importance of psychology in contributing to sustainable development goals and promoting societal well-being.
  3. Call for greater collaboration and synergy between psychology organisations and other stakeholders to maximise impact and effectiveness in achieving Agenda 2030 objectives.

One notable point worth disseminating is the successful collaboration between multiple psychology organisations, underscoring the power of collective action in advancing the goals of sustainable development.

As a call for action, participants were encouraged to continue advocating for psychology in policy-making processes, promoting awareness of mental health issues, and actively engaging in grassroots activism within their communities. The next steps involve further collaboration, knowledge sharing, and implementation of innovative solutions to address the complex challenges outlined in Agenda 2030.
